Modutec has completed a comprehensive accommodation refurbishment, delivering the full scope in six months with zero lost time injuries across 69,000 man-hours.
The project was executed as a single turnkey package. Modutec held responsibility for engineering and detailed planning, procurement of all materials and equipment, installation, and final handover, giving the client one point of accountability from first survey to completion.
Work covered the accommodation in its entirety. All flooring was replaced, and wall and ceiling panels were renewed throughout. Every LED lighting fixture and power outlet was replaced, and furniture was renewed across all spaces.
Officer cabins were modified to add an individual toilet to each cabin. That single change carried the most engineering weight in the scope, requiring piping, drainage, ventilation and panelling to be coordinated within existing structural constraints and without altering the surrounding cabin layout.
The wheelhouse was refurbished with new panelling and furniture. Galley equipment was replaced and upgraded, laundry equipment was renewed, and new gym equipment was installed. A complete HVAC upgrade with a new air-conditioning system improved both crew comfort and long-term reliability in high ambient temperatures.
Accommodation work carries a particular set of challenges. The scope is broad, the disciplines are tightly interdependent, and the working environment is confined. Flooring, panelling, electrical, piping, HVAC and outfitting all compete for the same limited access at the same time, and each one has to be sequenced around the others to keep the programme moving.
Completing 69,000 hours of that work without a single lost time injury reflects planning and supervision rather than good fortune. Sequencing was set out in advance, permits and access were controlled, and safety expectations were reinforced on every shift.
